Italians have it all; the best cuisine in the world, incredibly good wine and coffee, plenty of nature and charming old towns,  but above all, they are warm and including people. Margrethe and I were welcomed to the wonderful city of Verona, with open arms, and a big thank you goes to Fabio Federeghi and Frederico Renzi for the excellent work on the show and their hospitality.

Italian Fly Tying Show

Italians have it all; the best cuisine in the world, incredibly good wine and coffee, plenty of nature and charming old towns, but above all they are warm and including people. Margrethe and I were welcomed to the wonderful city of Verona, with open arms, and a big thank you goes to Fabio Federeghi and Frederico Renzi for the excellent work on the show and their hospitality.

The Italian Fly Tying Show has been a delightful experience, with many skilled fly tyers from France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Denmark, which has been very inspiring to witness and take part in. To my great joy, there was an overwhelming focus on dry flies and nymphs among the many creative fly tyers and thats right up my alley!!!! I was also very fortunate to meet Roberto Messori from “FlyLine,” a magazine I used to write articles for. Additionally, I had a pleasant conversation with Lorenzo Mangini, who provided some of the pictures for this report.

Margrethe and I also had the opportunity to explore Verona and Lake Garda during our little mini-vacation. We tasted Italian specialties such as pasta with duck ragout, tiramisu, Amarone wine, various cheeses and of course the delicious Italian ice cream. The weather was also on our side, 15-19 degrees Celsius and sunny skies. I believe it must have been the first time Margrethe and I dined outdoors in February, as we did on our last evening, when we enjoyed our pizza right across from the beautifully illuminated ancient Roman amphitheater, the “Verona Arena.”

And no, I didn’t hesitate at all when asked if I wanted to participate in future editions of the “Italian Fly Tying Show,” so I guess I will see you again next year.
